Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Flyover Experience

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Flyover Experience is a scenic aerial sightseeing journey that takes you from Kathmandu deep into the heart of the Khumbu region in a single morning. This 5-hour helicopter program is effortless and luxurious and needs no trekking, no weeks of preparation, and no prior experience required.

From the moment the helicopter lifts off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the Himalayas begin to unfold outside your window in a way that very few people on earth ever get to witness. Within minutes, the familiar skyline of Kathmandu gives way to dramatic river gorges, ancient Sherpa villages, and the increasingly imposing wall of the world's highest mountain range.

By the time Mount Everest (8,848.86m) fills your window, it is difficult to find words for what you are looking at. The total duration of the tour is approximately 4 to 5 hours from hotel pickup to hotel drop-off, making this one of the most time-efficient and accessible ways to experience Everest up close—a complete one-day Everest helicopter tour from Kathmandu that fits comfortably into even the tightest travel itinerary.

It is important to understand from the outset that this tour is a flyover-only package. The helicopter does not land at Kala Patthar or Everest Base Camp; instead, it performs a sweeping aerial flyover of both landmarks, giving you a rare bird's-eye perspective of Kala Patthar (5,545m) and Everest Base Camp (5,364m) from above. This aerial vantage point is, in many ways, more visually dramatic than a ground-level view—you see the full scale of the Khumbu Glacier stretching beneath you, the entire sweep of the upper Everest region laid out like a map, and the iconic summit pyramid of Everest rising above everything else in sharp, unmistakable relief.

We offer a separate Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Landing package for travelers who specifically want to step off the helicopter and stand on the ground at Kala Patthar, which is at 5,545 meters. Both experiences are extraordinary—they simply offer two different perspectives of the same breathtaking destination.

The flight route for this Everest helicopter sightseeing tour departs Kathmandu and heads northeast into the Khumbu Valley along one of the most scenic aerial corridors in the world. The helicopter first passes over Lukla (2,860m), home to the legendary Tenzing-Hillary Airport, also one of the most dramatic mountain airstrips on the planet.

The helicopter route continues over Tengboche Monastery, offering aerial views of the iconic Ama Dablam (6,812m) rising behind it, and then pushes deeper into the upper Khumbu, flying over the vast and fractured expanse of the Khumbu Glacier before reaching the flyover of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

After this highlight of the entire journey, the helicopter descends to Syangboche for a breakfast stop at Hotel Everest View, the world's highest-situated luxury hotel at 3,962 meters, with an unobstructed 180-degree panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. The return trip to Kathmandu takes around 25 to 30 minutes and completes a journey across some of the most stunning and inaccessible scenery on earth.

Everest Helicopter at Hotel Everest View

This helicopter sightseeing trip over Everest in Nepal is designed in two variations to accommodate different budgets and travel styles. The shared helicopter tour is the cheapest way to experience the Everest flyover, with up to five passengers per flight on fixed morning departures. It’s perfect for solo travelers, couples and small groups who don’t mind sharing the experience with other adventurers from around the globe.

The private helicopter charter also allows your group to make exclusive use of the whole aircraft for up to five passengers, so you may fly when you want, have complete privacy, and receive a more personalized experience from takeoff to landing. Private charters are especially popular with families traveling with children, honeymooning couples, corporate groups and anyone who wants the opportunity to request specific flight angles or extended time over significant sights, such as photographers.

Both private and shared tours travel the same gorgeous route, visit the same prominent sites and stop for the same breakfast, it's just a matter of exclusivity, flexibility and the overall vibe of the trip.

The Everest Base Camp helicopter flyover tour requires no physical fitness, no altitude acclimatization, and no trekking experience whatsoever—which is precisely what makes it accessible to such a wide range of travelers. Families traveling with young children, senior travelers who have long dreamed of seeing Everest, travelers with limited mobility, and visitors with just one or two days in Kathmandu all find this tour to be a genuinely life-changing experience that fits within their specific circumstances.

Breakfast at Hotel Everest View during EBC Heli Tour

The only time spent outside the helicopter at any elevation is the brief breakfast stop at Hotel Everest View (3,962m), which the vast majority of healthy travelers handle with complete ease. For those who are curious—yes, this tour is also suitable for travelers with no previous high-altitude experience, as the flyover sections at extreme elevations are conducted from within the enclosed helicopter cabin.

Over the years, thousands of travelers from more than 60 countries have taken this Everest helicopter tour without trekking with Nepal Trek Adventures and consistently describe it as the single most memorable experience of their visit to Nepal.

The best time to book the Everest Helicopter Tour is during the spring season from March to May and the autumn season from September to November since the flight conditions are most stable and the visibility of the Himalayas is at its finest. Spring is the season to become excited about the Everest climbing season, with expedition teams camping at Base Camp visible from the air during the flyby, while October, especially, has the best, clearest mountain vistas of the year, post-monsoon.

All tours depart in the early morning hours to take advantage of the calm, clear pre-noon weather that characterizes the Himalayas year-round. Every aspect of the tour—from your hotel pickup in Kathmandu to your final drop-off—is managed by Nepal Trek Adventures, a fully licensed, Nepal Tourism Board-registered company with over a decade of experience in Himalayan helicopter tours and an enduring dedication to your safety, comfort, and satisfaction.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour Cost

One of the most frequent concerns that travelers ask before booking is, How much does the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour cost? "It depends if you are going for a group joining flight or a private helicopter charter. How many individuals in your party? Nepal Trek Adventures prices are designed to fit everyone – from solitary travelers seeking the best value to families and groups wanting a truly private Himalayan experience.

Group Joining Helicopter Tour

The group joining option is the most affordable way to experience the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour. You share the helicopter with other passengers—a maximum of five people per flight—and depart on a fixed morning schedule. The route, the landmarks, and the overall quality of the experience are identical to the private charter; the only difference is that you share the aircraft with fellow travelers.

The cost of the group sharing everest helicopter tour is USD 1,395 per person and is perfect for single travelers, couples and small groups who are comfortable with a shared setting and seek a fantastic deal with no sacrifice on experience.

Please note that group joining flights are subject to seat availability. If your selected departure date is not filled, we will reach out to explore the best available options before confirming anything. This is entirely transparent from the outset; there are no charges locked in until everything has been discussed clearly and agreed upon.

Private Helicopter Charter

For travelers who want the entire helicopter to themselves, a private charter offers a fully exclusive Everest helicopter experience with complete flexibility over departure time, pacing, and in-flight comfort. Private charters are especially popular among families, honeymooning couples, photography enthusiasts, and groups who want a more intimate and personalized journey.

Each helicopter accommodates between one and five passengers, and the per-person cost decreases as your group size increases, which makes it a surprisingly competitive option for groups of four or five.

Private helicopter tour prices for Everest from USD 5,450 for a single passenger down to USD 1,250 per person when five people travel together. Nepal Trek Adventures also offers its most competitive rates when five passengers book together, so if you are traveling as a group, it is well worth comparing both options before deciding.

Breakfast at Hotel Everest View (Additional Cost)

The journey includes a stop at Hotel Everest View (3,962m) – the world’s highest luxury hotel—for breakfast with sweeping panoramic views of Everest and neighboring peaks. It’s one of the most memorable moments of this whole journey. Please be advised that breakfast is not included in the package price and will be payable directly to the hotel on the day. Everest Base Camp Helicopter Flyover Tour Flight Route

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is a popular scenic flight across the heart of the Khumbu valley featuring some of the most spectacular Himalayan scenery in one morning flight.

Kathmandu > Lukla

The aircraft departs from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and goes northeast into the Khumbu Valley. The chopper makes a short halt at Lukla Airport (2,804m) to refuel before continuing its journey higher into the Everest region.

Lukla > Pheriche > Flyover Everest Base Camp

The helicopter refuels at Lukla and then heads up the Khumbu Valley to Everest Base Camp. Please note that due to high-altitude flight laws, helicopters cannot land or take off with more than 3 passengers at altitudes exceeding 4,500 meters. So for groups of five, the flight is split into two batches, shuttled from Pheriche—one group of three and one group of two—each making the Everest Base Camp flyover before reuniting at Pheriche and continuing the tour together. The flyover takes in Kala Patthar (5,545m) and Everest Base Camp (5,364m), affording sweeping aerial views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and the Khumbu Glacier from above.

Aerial View of Mount Everest

Stop at Hotel Everest View (3880m)

On the return journey, the chopper lands at Hotel Everest View for a breakfast with a 360-degree view of the Everest ranges. The highlight of the journey is the world’s highest-altitude luxury hotel (3,880 meters), which has a magnificent panoramic view of Everest and the surrounding peaks. Ground time here is about one to one and a half hours depending on weather and helicopter schedule. Breakfast is available at an additional charge of approx. USD 32 per person and is to be paid individually.

Lukla → Return → Kathmandu

After breakfast the helicopter returns to Lukla for a second refuel before the final journey back to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The full-round journey will be performed in one morning with drop-off at your hotel or desired location in Kathmandu.

Mountains Visible During the Everest Helicopter Tour

One of the most extraordinary aspects of this helicopter tour is just how many of the world's highest and most iconic peaks come into view during a single flight. The Khumbu region is surrounded by an unmatched concentration of Himalayan giants, and the aerial vantage point of the helicopter gives you a perspective that no ground-level trail can replicate. On a clear morning (which is why early departures matter), the visibility across the entire Everest massif and surrounding range is simply breathtaking.

MountainHeightBest Viewed From
Mount Everest8,848.86 mUpper Khumbu flyover dominates the entire skyline
Lhotse8,516 mClearly visible just south of Everest during the flyover
Makalu8,485 mVisible to the east—a distinctive four-sided pyramid
Cho Oyu8,188 mVisible on the Tibetan border to the northwest
Nuptse7,861 mForms the dramatic western ridge of the Everest massif
Pumori7,161mStands directly above Base Camp on the western side

Kantega6,782 mVisible in the middle Khumbu section of the flight
Thamserku6,618 mTowers above Namche Bazaar early in the flight

Every peak in the table above is visible from inside the helicopter during normal clear-weather flight conditions. The exact visibility of each mountain varies based on your departure date, weather conditions, and the side of the helicopter you are seated on. On a private charter, the pilot can adjust the flight angle to ensure passengers on both sides get optimal views of key landmarks. On a shared tour, the pilot circles key areas, ensuring that every passenger has an equal opportunity to see and photograph the major peaks.

Everest Base Camp Flyover Experience in Nepal

The Everest Base Camp flyover is the defining moment of this entire tour. As the helicopter climbs into the upper Khumbu, the landscape below shifts from forested ridgelines and Sherpa villages to raw, glaciated, high-altitude terrain, revealing Everest. Not as a distant white triangle on the horizon, but close, massive, and utterly dominant over everything around it. This is the moment every passenger waits for from the moment they board the helicopter in Kathmandu.

The helicopter performs a sweeping aerial flyover of Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m), giving every passenger clear views of both landmarks from above. The section of the flight that consistently surprises people most is the view of the Khumbu Icefall — the notoriously dangerous stretch of collapsing ice and deep crevasses that rises steeply from Base Camp toward the Western Cwm.

Aerial View of Everest during Helicopter Tour

From the ground, the Icefall looks big, but it's not completely clear. It is clearly visible from the helicopter, in all its chaotic, astonishing complexity—a living, moving maze of ice that very few people ever see from this angle. During the climbing season (April-May) in spring, the colorful tent city of active Everest expedition teams is also plainly visible at Base Camp, adding a wonderful human dimension to the overhead vista.

The helicopter does not land at Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar on this tour. Beyond the regulatory restriction limiting helicopter landings above 4,500 meters to a maximum of three passengers, the extreme altitude, unpredictable wind conditions, and complex terrain in this area make high-altitude landings weather-dependent and operationally demanding.

This Everest base camp from sky package removes those variables entirely—giving you full visual access to both landmarks from the air, without the additional cost, waiting time, and weather risk that a landing at 5,545 meters involves. For photographers, this option is also worth noting: the aerial vantage point allows you to capture Base Camp, the Icefall, the glacier, and the full southwest face of Everest simultaneously in a single frame—something that is simply not possible from any ground-level position.

This package is specifically designed for travelers who want the full Everest experience without the high-altitude landing stop at Kala Patthar. It is the ideal choice for those who want to see Everest Base Camp up close, witness the Khumbu Icefall from above, and return to Kathmandu within a single morning—efficiently, safely, and without compromise on the visual experience. If you are searching for a ground-level experience at Kala Patthar, our separate Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Kalapatthar Landing is the right package for you.

Every minute of the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is prepared down to the minute to provide you the most scenic, safe and seamless experience imaginable. Here’s an hour-by-hour rundown of your morning, from setting off from your hotel in Kathmandu to returning to it.

5:40 AM: Hotel Pick Up & Transfer to Kathmandu Airport

Begin your Everest helicopter trip with an early morning private hotel pickup in Kathmandu. The early start is deliberate because morning weather in the Himalayas is at its most stable and clear, and leaving early assures you’ll arrive in the Everest region during the finest possible visibility window of the day. Transfer to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport takes about 15-20 min depending on the location of your hotel.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour — New Rules and Regulations for 2026

From 2026 onward, all Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours operate under updated regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Travelers should be aware of the following before booking:

  • Strict weight limits enforced at Pheriche; group shuttling in batches above 4,500m is mandatory
  • Groups of 4 split into batches of 2; groups of 5 split into batches of 3 and 2
  • All national park permits and airport taxes payable in cash before departure — cards not accepted
  • Total mandatory cash requirement: approximately USD 51 per person
  • Real-time weather and visibility clearance required before every departure
  • No flight departs without morning weather confirmation from pilot and operations team
  • All regulations set and enforced by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN)

6:20am - Helicopter check-in & pre-flight briefing

Once you are at the domestic terminal you will check-in at the airport desk. Please bring a copy of your passport for verification purposes. When check-in is complete your guide will introduce you to your pilot and crew, and you will be given a short pre-flight safety briefing including information on seat positions, seatbelt use, photography in flight and what to expect during the flyover stages of the flight. This is also a good time to ask any last-minute inquiries before boarding.

6:40 AM: Helicopter departure from Kathmandu

Your chopper takes off from the domestic terminal, heading northeast, toward the Himalayas, as Kathmandu comes to life in the early morning light. The first leg of the journey is around 25 to 30 minutes, providing wide aerial views of the Kathmandu valley, the lower Himalayan foothills and the increasingly stunning alpine region ahead. Make sure your camera is handy the instant you start off. The morning light at this time is golden, mellow and great for photography.

7:45 AM: Fuel Stop at Lukla Airport (2,804 m)

The helicopter stops for a quick refill at Lukla Airport, formally known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, considered one of the most spectacular mountain airstrips in the world. The stop is about 10 to 15 minutes and it is a good chance to get off the bus for a few minutes and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Lukla, the traditional gateway to the Everest region and the starting point for thousands of trekkers each year. With refueling complete, the helicopter heads northeast into the upper Khumbu Valley towards Everest Base Camp.

8:00 AM: Flight across the Khumbu Valley

This is the part of the flight where the landscape changes considerably. As the chopper heads deeper into the Khumbu the lush valleys and forested ridges of the lower Himalayas give way to the stark, stony, glacier-carved landscape of the high Himalayas. Flying over Namche Bazaar (3,440m) and Tengboche Monastery, with the unmistakable spike of Ama Dablam (6,812m) rising behind it, the landscape outside your window gets ever more magnificent with every minute that passes. Now below us the Khumbu Glacier is revealed, and in front of us the great peaks of Lhotse, Nuptse and Pumori begin to dominate the horizon.

8:30 AM: Flyover to Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar

This is the best part of the whole tour. The helicopter ascends into the upper Khumbu and does a sweeping aerial flyover over Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m) at an elevation of roughly 5,250 meters.

From above, you can see the full extent of the Everest region stretched out below you: the vast moraine of Base Camp, the chaotic and awe-inspiring Khumbu Icefall towering steeply up to the Western Cwm, and the iconic southwest face of Mount Everest (8,848.86m), dominating the skyline in a way that no photograph can really prepare you for. Base Camp is easily identifiable by the colorful tent city of busy expedition teams during the spring climbing season. The helicopter circled the region so every passenger had good views on both sides of the aircraft before we go on to the next location.

Please Note: High-altitude flight restrictions prohibit helicopters from landing or departing with more than three passengers over 14,800 feet. The flight shuttles from Pheriche in batches of three and two for groups of five. Each batch does the flyover and then regroups at Pheriche and continues together.

8:50 AM: Breakfast Hotel Everest View (3,880m)

After the exciting fly-over the helicopter lands at Syangboche for a breakfast stop at the Hotel Everest View. This is the world's highest luxury hotel, according to the Guinness World Records, at 3,880 meters. It has a spectacular panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Nuptse. Ground time here is around an hour and a half, giving you plenty of time to eat a nice breakfast on the terrace, absorb the surroundings and take photos of the Everest massif in the clear morning light. This is a calmer and more reflective phase of the journey, an opportunity to sit with the experience before the return flight commences.

The trip package does not include breakfast and the cost is payable directly in the hotel at around USD 32 per person.

9:50 AM: Kathmandu Return Flight via Lukla

Then after breakfast you re-board the helicopter for the return ride back to Kathmandu. The helicopter flies down through the Khumbu Valley for one last round of views over the Sherpa villages, terraced farms and magnificent river gorges of the lower Khumbu. We stop for a quick refuel at Lukla Airport before the final leg back to Kathmandu. The return flight is about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on conditions.

11:40 AM: Reach Kathmandu Domestic Airport

One of the most remarkable morning experiences anywhere in the world comes to an end as the chopper lands at Tribhuvan International Airport. Many people say that the contrast between the hushed, icy grandeur of the Himalayas and the vibrant, bustling energy of Kathmandu is truly bizarre – and immensely memorable.

12:00 PM: Return to Your Hotel

You will be dropped off back to your hotel or any preferred location in Kathmandu in a private vehicle. You will be back before noon and have the rest of the day to explore Kathmandu, rest or get ready for your next Nepal adventure.

Please Note: All mentioned times are approximate and may differ due to weather conditions and flight traffic in the Himalayan region. Mountain weather can be unpredictable and safety on the flight is always the top issue. Nepal Trek Adventures will keep you updated about any changes in timing and handle all changes to ensure your tour is safe, seamless and fun.

Our team guides, porters and accompanying staff are locals with a broad knowledge about each and every location that we travel through.

Is The Helicopter Tour To Everest Base Camp Safe?

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is operated under strict aviation safety standards authorized by the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN). This is what keeps you safe during the whole flight:

  • All pilots are properly licensed and CAAN qualified and have vast high-altitude Himalayan flying expertise
  • Helicopters are modern aircraft and can fly at high altitudes. They are under regular certified maintenance tests.
  • There is a live weather check before every flight and during the flight, the departures are only allowed if the weather is verified safe
  • Flights only run in the early morning hours to take advantage of the most stable weather windows in the Himalayan region.
  • There is an extra supply of oxygen on board for passengers who may feel uncomfortable at altitude
  • All helicopters are equipped with basic emergency equipment in accordance with CAAN aviation standards.
  • Weight limits are tightly maintained on every trip so the aircraft can perform safely at altitude.
  • If weather conditions deteriorate during the flight, the pilot has complete freedom to change the itinerary or return early—passenger safety always takes precedence over finishing the tour.
  • Nepal Trek Adventures only works with qualified and trustworthy helicopter operators with a proven safety record of Himalayan operations.
  • Highly suggest all travelers have travel insurance covering helicopter rescue and high-altitude medical evacuation

Best Time for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

The best time for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the Himalayan skies are at their clearest and flying conditions are most stable. Spring brings the added excitement of the Everest climbing season, with expedition teams visible at Base Camp during the flyover, while October in particular delivers the sharpest mountain visibility of the entire year following the monsoon.

Everest Helicopter tour in Spring

Winter flights from December to February are possible on clear days but carry a higher risk of cancellation due to cold fronts and unpredictable wind. Monsoon season from June to August is not recommended — persistent cloud cover and poor visibility make consistent flight operations extremely difficult during these months. Regardless of season, all flights depart in the early morning hours to take advantage of the calm, clear pre-noon weather that characterizes the Himalayan region year-round.

Who Can Join This EBC Helicopter Tour Package?

One of the greatest strengths of this tour is how accessible it is—no trekking, no fitness training, no altitude acclimatization needed. It is genuinely open to everyone:

  • Families with children—no minimum age requirement; children find the flight thrilling and the absence of a high-altitude landing keeps the experience safe and comfortable for young passengers
  • Senior travelers — for those who have always dreamed of seeing Everest but are no longer able to undertake a 14-day trek, this tour is a genuinely fulfilling alternative with minimal physical demands
  • Travelers with limited time—the entire experience is completed within a single morning, making it ideal for visitors with just one or two days in Kathmandu
  • Luxury and bucket-list travelers—the private charter option delivers an exclusive, world-class Himalayan experience that requires nothing beyond a booking confirmation
  • Photography enthusiasts—the aerial vantage point offers unmatched opportunities to capture Everest, the Khumbu Glacier, and the Icefall simultaneously in a single frame; a private charter is especially recommended for photographers who want full control over window position and flight angles
  • Travelers with limited mobility or health considerations—as long as you are in reasonable general health, physical limitations are not a barrier; the only time outside the helicopter at elevation is the brief breakfast stop at Hotel Everest View (3,880m), which the vast majority of healthy travelers handle with complete ease

Hop-On & Hop-Off Everest Helicopter Experience

Not every traveler arrives at the start of a journey or leaves at the end of one. Some are already deep in the Khumbu region — mid-trek, post-acclimatization, or simply short on time — and still want to experience the Everest region from the air. That is exactly what the Hop-On & Hop-Off Everest Helicopter service is designed for.

Unlike the standard full-day Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour from Kathmandu, the Hop-On & Hop-Off option allows you to join or exit the helicopter at key stops along the route, including Lukla, Pheriche, and Hotel Everest View, depending on where you are and where you need to be. It is a flexible, modular approach to the Everest helicopter experience that works around your itinerary rather than the other way around.

How It Works

  • Already trekking in the Khumbu? You can hop on at Lukla or Pheriche and join the flyover from there, skipping the Kathmandu departure entirely
  • Finished the tour but don't want to fly all the way back to Kathmandu? Hop off at Lukla and continue your trek or arrange onward transport from there
  • Want to extend your time in the Everest region after the flyover? Stay back at Hotel Everest View and arrange a separate return flight at a later time
  • Need an emergency exit from the Khumbu region due to health, time, or any other reason? The helicopter network covers all major stops along the route

Key Hop-On & Hop-Off Points in Other Landmarks of Khumbu Region

This service is available as a private arrangement and is priced based on your specific route and requirements. It is particularly useful for trekkers combining an Everest Base Camp trek with a helicopter return, travelers on tight schedules, and anyone who needs a flexible Himalayan helicopter solution that fits their exact situation.

Weight Limit Information for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

For everyone on the Everest Base Camp chopper Tour, weight limits are an important part of operating a Himalayan chopper. Total weight has a direct effect on helicopter performance at high altitudes; the heavier the load, the harder the aircraft has to function in thin air. Nepal Trek Adventures closely adheres to the weight regulations established by the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN) to guarantee safe and legal operations.

Condition

Limit

Maximum passengers per helicopter

5 persons

Maximum total weight (Kathmandu to Lukla)

500 kg

Maximum weight per shuttle above 4,400m

240 kg

Recommended average weight per person

80 kg

How the Shuttle System Works Above 4,400 Meters

For safety reasons, the helicopter can't take more than 240 kg per flight above 4,400 meters, from Pheriche to Everest Base Camp. For groups of four or five people, this means that the flight is split into two bus runs from Pheriche:

  • Groups of 4 are split into two batches of 2
  • Groups of 5 are split into batches of 3 and 2
  • Each batch completes the EBC flyover separately before regrouping at Pheriche

This shuttle arrangement is standard procedure on all group joining and private Everest helicopter tours and does not affect the quality or completeness of your flyover experience. Every passenger sees the same landmarks — the process simply takes a little longer for larger groups.

Extra Shuttle Cost

If your group's total weight exceeds the single-shuttle limit above 4,400 meters and an additional shuttle run is required beyond the standard arrangement, an extra shuttle fee of approximately USD 700 applies. This cost is shared equally among the group.

Important Notes

  • All passengers are weighed at check-in before boarding — this is mandatory, not optional
  • Both body weight and carry-on luggage are counted toward the total payload
  • Maximum carry-on luggage allowance is 5 kg per person
  • If total group weight requires an additional helicopter from Kathmandu, the full cost of the extra helicopter applies
  • Please inform us of your group's approximate total weight at the time of booking so we can plan shuttle arrangements in advance and avoid any surprises on the day.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is a condition that arises when the body does not have enough time to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels at high elevation. Altitude sickness is a much smaller risk on the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour flyover package than a trekking itinerary. The tour is fast paced, there is little ground time at a high elevation, and the only stop is at Hotel Everest View (3,880m), which most healthy travelers can easily tolerate.

With that stated, it’s crucial to know what the symptoms are and what to do if you feel poorly.

Common Symptoms to Watch For

  • Headache, dizziness, or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or loss of appetite
  • Fatigue or unusual shortness of breath
  • Difficulty concentrating or mild confusion

How to Minimize Your Risk

  • Stay well hydrated before and during the tour. Also avoid alcohol the night before.
  • Eat a light meal before departure and  avoid heavy or greasy food.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol on the day of the tour.
  • If you have a history of altitude sickness, consult your doctor before booking and ask about Diamox (Acetazolamide) as a preventive measure.
  • Inform your pilot immediately if you feel unwell at any point during the flight.

What Happens in an Emergency

Our pilots are trained in high-altitude medical response. Supplemental oxygen is available on board every helicopter. In the event of a serious altitude-related emergency, the pilot has full authority to descend to a lower altitude immediately and arrange evacuation if required. This is precisely why travel insurance covering helicopter rescue and high-altitude medical evacuation is required for all passengers on this tour.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Q1. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EEVREST HELICOPTER TOUR

      1. What is the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is a scenic aerial adventure that takes you on a luxury helicopter flight from Kathmandu (or Lukla) to the Everest region. The flight offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, and flies over key landmarks like Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and the Khumbu Glacier, with a landing at Hotel Everest View for breakfast. It’s the fastest and most comfortable way to experience Everest without trekking.

      2. How long does the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour take?

The full tour typically takes 4 to 5 hours, including hotel pickup and drop-off in Kathmandu. The actual flight time (round trip) is around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on weather and air traffic. You also spend around 30–45 minutes at Hotel Everest View for breakfast and photography.

      3. How high will we go on the helicopter tour?

The helicopter flies as high as 5,500 meters (18,044 feet) while hovering over Kala Patthar, which is the closest safe point for aerial Everest viewing. It offers the best vantage point for seeing Everest’s summit and surrounding peaks. Landing is done at Hotel Everest View (3,880 meters) to avoid altitude sickness risks.

      4. Can a helicopter land on the top of Mount Everest?

Technically, helicopters have landed on the summit of Mt. Everest in rare cases (e.g., record attempts), but it is not permitted or safe for commercial tours. The top of Everest has dangerously thin air, making it unfeasible for regular tourist landings. Therefore, no commercial helicopter tours land on the summit — they only fly over Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

      5. Can we land at Everest Base Camp?

Landing directly at Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters) is not permitted for commercial flights, especially during the peak climbing seasons due to safety and congestion with climbers. Instead, flights hover over EBC and sometimes land briefly near Kala Patthar, depending on wind and air clearance. Most landings are now done at Hotel Everest View, a safer and more stable location.

      6. Do we land at Kala Patthar or just fly over it?

Due to high altitude and air pressure issues, landings at Kala Patthar (5,545 meters) are subject to weather, wind, and passenger safety. On good weather days and if air traffic allows, a brief 5–10 minute landing or hover stop is done for photography. However, this is not guaranteed and is at the pilot’s discretion.

      7. Where do we land during the tour?

The standard landing for most Everest helicopter tours is at the Hotel Everest View (3,880 meters). Here, passengers enjoy a scenic breakfast and panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and other peaks. Some tours may offer a brief stop at Kala Patthar depending on weather and safety conditions.

      8. How long do we stay at Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar?

If the flight includes a hover stop at Kala Patthar, it’s typically for 5–10 minutes only, due to oxygen levels and safety. There is no landing at Base Camp, only aerial flyover. The main landing at Hotel Everest View lasts 30 to 45 minutes, allowing for a relaxed breakfast and photos.

      9. How many people can the helicopter carry on the Everest Base Camp tour?

Most helicopters used (such as the AS350 B3e) can carry up to 5 passengers plus the pilot. However, at high altitude, the helicopter’s weight capacity decreases. So, for the Lukla to Everest section, passengers may be split into groups of 2 or 3 per shuttle, with rotations to ensure safety and visibility.

      10. Will everyone get a window seat during the flight?
Yes, the tour is arranged so that everyone gets a window seat at some point during the flight. For safety and fairness, seat rotation is done during different legs of the trip (e.g., Kathmandu–Lukla, Lukla–Everest–Hotel Everest View, and return). This ensures each passenger enjoys the best possible views.

      11. How do I ensure a window seat on the helicopter?

While window seats are rotated during different segments of the flight, you can request a front seat (next to the pilot) or a specific seat in advance during booking. However, final seat assignments are based on weight distribution and safety protocols as determined by the pilot.

      12. Will we have enough time to take photos at Everest?

Absolutely. The tour is designed for sightseeing and photography. You’ll have opportunities to take photos during the flyover, and at the Hotel Everest View stop, which provides clear views of Everest and surrounding peaks. If a brief landing at Kala Patthar is possible, it’s also a great photo opportunity.

      13. Can we customize the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

Yes. Nepal Trek Adventures and other operators offer customized helicopter tours for private groups, honeymooners, filmmakers, and VIPs. Customizations may include:

      • Private charters
      • Extended landing times
      • Photography-focused flights
      • Combining with short treks or hotel stays
      • Custom tours may involve additional costs.

      14. What should I wear for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

Dress in warm, layered clothing, as temperatures at high altitude can be freezing even in spring or autumn. Essentials include:

      • Thermal base layers
      • Insulated jacket or down jacket
      • Windproof outerwear
      • Gloves, hat, and sunglasses
      • Hiking shoes or warm footwear
      • Also, bring sunscreen and lip balm for sun and wind protection.

      15. What mountains will we see during the flight?
You’ll witness stunning Himalayan peaks, including:

      • Mount Everest (8,848.86 m)
      • Lhotse
      • Nuptse
      • Ama Dablam
      • Thamserku
      • Cho Oyu
      • Khumbutse
      • Pumori

The tour offers some of the best aerial views of the entire Khumbu region.

    • 1. How far in advance should I book the helicopter tour for 2026 or 2027?

To ensure availability and the best flight schedule, it's recommended to book at least 2–6 months in advance for peak seasons (spring: March–May and autumn: September–November). However, early booking (up to 1 year ahead) is highly encouraged for 2026 and 2027 due to rising demand and limited daily seats. Pre-booking also helps secure permits, airport transfers, and preferred seating arrangements.

      2. Can I book the tour online and pay later?

Yes. We offer flexible booking options:

      • Option 1: You can reserve your seat online by paying a 50% deposit upfront and clearing the balance later (usually 1–2 weeks before the tour date).
      • Option 2: Full payment at the time of booking.

Once booked, our team will confirm your seat and send the itinerary, invoice, and preparation guide.

      3. Is there a fixed departure schedule or are custom dates available?

We operate daily fixed departures during the main seasons. However, custom dates are also available upon request for private tours or group bookings. Whether you're a solo traveler or part of a group, we’ll match you with an existing flight or arrange a private charter based on your preference.

      4. Is group joining possible for solo travelers?

Absolutely! Solo travelers can join a group departure and share the helicopter with others (up to 5 passengers max). We actively match solo travelers to ensure the flight runs efficiently and affordably. You’ll still enjoy a window seat and equal time for scenic views and photography.

      5. What happens if the weather is bad on the tour day?

Safety is the top priority. If the weather conditions are not favorable for flying:

      • The tour will be rescheduled for the next available day, based on weather updates and your availability.
      • If rescheduling is not possible during your stay, a full refund (excluding service/processing fees) will be issued as per our cancellation policy.

Our team will update you early in the morning on tour day regarding flight status.

      6. Can I change or cancel my booking after payment?

Yes. We understand travel plans can change, so we offer:

      • Free date changes with prior notice (usually 7+ days in advance).
      • Cancellations made 15+ days before the tour date are eligible for a full refund (minus any bank charges).
      • Cancellations made less than 7 days before the tour may incur a cancellation fee, unless weather or health issues apply.

We recommend reviewing our flexible cancellation policy before confirming your booking.

      7. Do I need to provide passport details during booking?

Yes. As part of government regulations, we require your passport copy to arrange the necessary Sagarmatha National Park entry permits and other permit. These are mandatory for any flights entering the Everest region.

      8. Is there any pre-tour briefing before the flight?

Yes. A brief safety and itinerary orientation is provided:

      • A short briefing (10–15 minutes) will be done either the evening before or just before the flight at the domestic terminal.
      • The team will explain altitude guidelines, helicopter boarding, seating rotation, photography tips, and emergency procedures.
      • For private tours or large groups, a personal briefing at your hotel may be arranged upon request.
    • 1. What is the cost of the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour per person?

The cost generally starts from USD $1395 per person for a group joining flight (sharing basis, typically 5 passengers max). Private chartered flights can cost around USD $4000 to $5000 total depending on the number of people, flight time, and season.
Note: Prices may vary slightly depending on season, fuel surcharge, or custom add-ons.

      2. What is included in the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour package?

      • Airport transfers (hotel pickup and drop-off in Kathmandu).

      4. Are meals and permits included in the price?

Make sure to confirm if card fees or conversion charges are applicable.

      7. Are Bitcoins accepted for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

Currently, most operators do not accept Bitcoin or cryptocurrency directly. However, some may accept payment through third-party services that convert crypto to cash. It’s best to inquire directly with the operator if you wish to pay with digital currency.

      8. Will the cost change for 2026 and 2027?

Tour prices for 2026 and 2027 are expected to rise slightly due to:

      • Fuel price adjustments
      • Rising operational costs
      • Permit or government fee updates

Booking early allows you to lock in current prices and avoid inflation-related increases.

      9. Is tipping the pilot or crew customary?

Tipping is not mandatory but is greatly appreciated for good service.

      • For group tours, $10–$20 USD per passenger for the pilot is a common range.
      • For private charters, tipping can be $30–$50 USD or more, depending on the level of service.

It’s a nice gesture to recognize their skill and ensure safety in a high-altitude, weather-sensitive environment.

    • 1. Is it safe to fly to Everest Base Camp by helicopter?

Yes, it is generally very safe when conducted by licensed operators. The helicopters used are well-maintained and flown by highly experienced pilots who specialize in mountain aviation. Flights operate only in clear weather with excellent visibility, and all safety regulations are strictly followed.

      2. Is oxygen available on the helicopter if needed?

Yes. our helicopters used for Everest flights are equipped with emergency oxygen systems. While oxygen is rarely needed during this short flight, it is available as a precaution, especially for high-altitude landings like at Hotel Everest View (3,880 m).

      3. Will I feel altitude sickness during the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

Most travelers do not experience severe altitude sickness because the exposure to high altitude is brief. You’ll be flying at high elevations (up to 5,500 meters above sea level) and landing at Hotel Everest View for about 1 hour. Mild symptoms like dizziness or shortness of breath are possible but usually manageable.
Staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and informing the crew of any discomfort are important.

      4. How long do we stay at high altitude?

      • The flyover of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar lasts around 10–15 minutes.
      • The landing at Hotel Everest View typically lasts 1 hour, depending on weather and air traffic conditions.

Total time at altitude (above 3,500m) is usually under 1.5 hours, minimizing the risk of altitude-related issues.

      5. Is the tour safe for children, seniors, or people with health conditions?

Yes, it is generally safe for:

      • Children above 3–4 years (who can follow safety instructions)
      • Seniors (with moderate fitness and no serious heart or lung conditions)
      • Travelers with minor health conditions (after consulting a doctor)

If you have respiratory, heart issues, or are pregnant, consult with your physician before booking. We will provide additional oxygen or medical kits upon request.

      5. What is the weight limit for the Base Camp Helicopter Tour?

For safety and performance at high altitudes, there are strict weight limits on the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour:

      • Maximum Number of People per Helicopter: 5 persons
      • Weight Limit for 5 Passengers:Maximum 500 kilograms total
      • Weight Limit for 3 Passengers (High-Altitude Shuttles):Maximum 250 kilograms
      • Recommended Average Weight Per Person:80 kilograms

At higher altitudes like Pheriche or Kala Patthar, helicopters may carry only 3 passengers at a time due to thin air and reduced lift capacity. In such cases, the group may be split into shuttles for safety.

If your group or individual weights exceed the limit, adjustments will be made for safe operation. We will request your weight in advance to plan accordingly.

      6. What kind of helicopter is used for the tour?

The most commonly used helicopters include:

      • Airbus H125 (formerly AS350 B3e) – ideal for high-altitude performance
      • Bell Jet Ranger or similar – occasionally used for private or luxury charters

These models are known for strong lift capability in thin air, safety reliability, and excellent mountain navigation systems.

      7. Are the helicopters well-maintained and piloted by experienced crew?

Yes. Reputed tour operators follow strict maintenance schedules and use CAA-certified aircraft (Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal).
Pilots flying the Everest route have years of experience flying in Himalayan terrain and undergo regular altitude and emergency response training.

      8. What should I do if I have a fear of heights or flying?

Many travelers with mild fear of flying or heights still enjoy the tour, as:

      • Flights are short and very smooth in clear weather
      • The helicopter cabin is quiet and stable, with minimal turbulence
      • You’re allowed to talk to the pilot, ask questions, and even exit early if needed (in emergencies)

If you're concerned, inform your booking agent so they can seat you strategically and brief the crew accordingly. Taking motion sickness tablets before the flight may also help.

    • 1. Do I need to provide my passport or ID before the tour?

Yes, providing a valid passport or government-issued ID is mandatory for booking and security purposes. We will need your details to process permits, flight manifests, and government approvals. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.

      2. Is there any pre-flight briefing before the helicopter tour?

Yes, before departure, you will receive a briefing session covering safety procedures, use of seat belts, emergency instructions, and conduct during the flight. The crew will also answer any last-minute questions to ensure a smooth and safe experience.

      3. Can I store my luggage while I’m on the helicopter tour?

Since the helicopter seats are limited and space is tight, large luggage cannot be taken on the flight. We recommend you to leave your luggage safely at your hotel or at a designated storage facility. You should only bring a small backpack or camera bag with essentials for the tour.

      4. Are airport/hotel transfers included in the package?

Typically, yes. Our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour packages include round-trip transfers from your hotel in Kathmandu to the domestic airport and back. Confirm this with your operator during booking to avoid last-minute surprises.

      5. Can I bring a backpack or camera gear on board?

Yes, you can bring a small backpack, camera, smartphone, and personal items onboard. However, large or bulky items are discouraged due to limited cabin space. Photography enthusiasts often carry lightweight cameras and accessories to capture stunning aerial views.

      6. Is this tour suitable for honeymooners or special occasions (e.g., birthdays, proposals)?

Absolutely! The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is a spectacular choice for honeymooners, anniversaries, birthdays, or marriage proposals. Many operators offer special arrangements such as private flights, in-flight announcements, or celebratory setups at Hotel Everest View. Inform your tour provider in advance to customize your experience.

      7. Can I reschedule the tour if I have a last-minute delay or flight issue?

We will try to accommodate rescheduling requests due to unavoidable delays like flight cancellations or health issues, but it depends on availability and weather conditions. It’s best to notify us as early as possible and clarify their policy on changes and refunds during booking.

A Photographer's Paradise – Everest From Above is Pure Gold!

I have been a travel and landscape photographer for over fifteen years, shooting everywhere from the Sahara Desert to the Patagonian wilderness, but I can say with complete confidence that the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Nepal Trek Adventure gave me the most extraordinary photographic opportunity of my entire career. I had specifically come to Nepal with the goal of capturing the Himalayas from the air, and NTA understood my vision from the very first conversation.

When I mentioned during the booking process that photography was my primary purpose for the tour, the team went out of their way to accommodate me — they briefed the pilot in advance, ensured I had a window seat with optimal visibility, and even arranged a slightly extended hover time above key viewpoints so I could compose my shots without feeling rushed. That level of thoughtfulness is incredibly rare and speaks volumes about the professionalism of Nepal Trek Adventure as a company. The flight itself was a photographer's dream from start to finish.

As we ascended out of the Kathmandu Valley and entered the high Himalayan terrain, the quality of light in the early morning hours was absolutely extraordinary — golden, sharp, and impossibly clear. The snow-dusted ridgelines of Everest, the dramatic shadow play across the Khumbu Glacier, the tiny specks of colorful expedition tents at Base Camp far below, the ancient Tengboche Monastery nestled among the peaks — every single frame felt like a postcard that no postcard could ever truly replicate. I shot over 1,400 photographs during the tour and genuinely struggled to narrow them down for my portfolio. When people ask me which assignment produced my best work, I now point to Nepal without a moment's hesitation.

Beyond the photography, the experience itself was deeply humbling. Hovering beside the summit of the world's tallest mountain, watching the jet stream carry a plume of snow off Everest's peak like a silk scarf in the wind, reminded me why I picked up a camera in the first place—to capture moments that make human beings feel small in the most beautiful way possible. Nepal Trek Adventure, a thousand thanks to your incredible team for making this tour everything I had hoped for and so much more. You have earned a customer for life, and I will be recommending you to every photographer and adventurer I know. Nepal, and this extraordinary helicopter journey above the roof of the world, has changed my photography—and honestly, my life—forever.

Elderly Traveler's Dream – Saw Everest Without the Trek!

At 68 years old, I had long given up on the idea of ever seeing Everest Base Camp. The multi-week trek is simply not something my body could handle anymore. When a friend told me about the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, I was skeptical at first — could a short helicopter ride really do justice to one of the world's greatest natural wonders? The answer, thanks to Nepal Trek Adventure, is an emphatic YES. This tour is a genuine miracle for older travelers, people with physical limitations, or anyone with a limited time window in Nepal. The entire experience was thoughtfully managed with my comfort and safety in mind. The Nepal Trek Adventure team helped me at every step — boarding the helicopter, adjusting my gear, and making sure I was settled before takeoff. The flight itself was smooth, the windows were crystal clear, and the views of Everest, the surrounding Himalayan peaks, and the ancient Sherpa villages below were more magnificent than any photograph or documentary had ever suggested. When we briefly landed near Base Camp and I looked up at the mountain I had dreamed of seeing for four decades, I cried — and I am not ashamed to admit it. Nepal Trek Adventure, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving this old traveler the greatest gift of his life.
